I am becoming increasingly aware of the problem of over
use of certain types of tree for guitar building and so try to minimise my
own impact as much as possible. For electric guitars I try and use old furniture
for bodies whenever possible - for acoustic guitars I always use sustainably
sourced materials.
I have experimented with locally grown and sawn Boxwood for fingerboards (almost
as hard as Ebony) and Laburnum for bindings plus Cherry and Ash for bodies
sourced locally.
Update - 2017 much tougher regulation of certain woods
